Brownsburg, Indiana – May 12, 2008 – As some members of First Kart USA are preparing for an important test and race in Indiana, several Canadian FirstKart.com drivers competed in the opening round of the Ontario Regional Karting Championship (ORKC) held at Goodwood Kartways. Scoring victories were Kevin Monteith and Gregory Hovesen. Leading the way was junior sensation and outright championship favorite Kevin Monteith. Focusing on regional competition and events south of the border, Monteith led all competitors through Friday’s practice day. Saturday would prove the same outcome for the Stouffville resident as he would claim the Canada Junior prefinal and final victories after qualifying inside row three. Monteith drove a mistake free feature race to take the checkered flag by 5.738 over his closest rival. Looking to do the double, Monteith was registered and dominated the Rotax Junior class. After claiming the pole position and prefinal victory, Monteith drove fast and consistent race laps to score a 6.784 victory as he was unchallenged by the 19 kart field. The FirstKart.com driver was the only double race winner of the weekend and was awarded Sunday’s ‘Junior Driver of the Day’ award. Scoring FirstKart.com’s third victory of the weekend was Novice competitor Gregory Hovesen. As a combined Toronto Kart Club and ORKC event, Hovesen drove a remarkable race to the win in front of a large field of competitors. Junior Lite competitor Matthew Peralto also scored a podium result as the talented junior had a strong run to the second position. With the goal of a podium in mind, Mike MacNeil did just what he needed to do to accomplish his goal. The FirstKart.com shifter pilot took home the third and final podium position in the ProShifter field. Rotax pilot Stefan Yasin was FirstKart.com’s other double entry as he would do battle in both the headline categories of DD2 and Rotax Senior. Yasin drove his First Kart ride to a solid seventh place finish in Saturday’s DD2 final before coming home 26th in a tough field of Rotax Senior pilots. The FirstKart.com race team has a full testing program available for all drivers looking to compete with the team in the World Karting Association Manufacturer’s Cup, Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by Indy Car Series, Rock Island Grand Prix and Superkarts!
